Installation Methods of Underground Copper Piping

There are four installation methods of underground copper piping that you can consider.

  1. Impact Moling: It is a type of trenchless method that pushes a mole through the soil until it reaches the end of an excavated hole. Before withdrawing the mole to the start location, it will be connected to a rope so that it can pull the piping material into the hole created by the mole.
  2. Open Trenching: Open trenching utilises a man-made cut, cavity, or trench to effectively install the underground copper piping. It is created through a backhoe or chain-type trencher.
  3. Directional Boring: It is an installation method wherein a wellbore is installed along with a lateral distance from the angled starting location. It can be similar to impact moling in terms of the piping installation. However, direction boring allows the wellbore to be curved between the initial and the end points.
  4. Direct Pipe Pulling: This type of installation utilises vibratory plough type machines to effectively install underground copper piping around obstacles or structures without the use of open trenching. Direct pipe pulling can also prevent damaging lawns and other site structures.
